If there is someone out there that I can’t get enough of it is Chris Brown. Brown is an Anderson University alum and at this moment resides in Columbia. His most recent band was the Chris Brown Band. As good as their full band material was, there is something extra special when Chris plays his music solo. Chris has songs that will burn into your brain. His writing style is unique and his vocals are from Heaven. Be sure and check him out in Columbia while you still can.
Just wanting to remind everyone of the Derek Webb show tonight at the Handlebar. You can check back in the archives to read about the new album and tour that he is on now. Today is also the release of Webb’s new album it is on Itunes, but if you want the graphic novel that comes with the album you have to buy it in the store or online.
so here is a brief history of Christian rock/ a list of bands that are crossover or otherwise controversial. I have to say: DC TALK ROCKS MY WORLD!! My parent’s used to play them while we would clean the house on saturday mornings in the 6 disc changer along with Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Boston, The Eagles, and of course, Journey. good times, good times.
The Greenville News recently updated a story about the granola loving band Guster. They are coming to Furman on Friday. Here is the article:
When indie-pop band Guster performs Friday night at Furman, the musicians will have more on their minds than guitar riffs and song lyrics. The show is part of the band’s second annual Campus Consciousness Tour, which seeks to get college students involved in environmental causes.Guster, a Boston-based group whose latest album is called “Ganging Up on the Sun,” is putting on the tour with Reverb, an environmental action group founded by the band’s guitarist, Adam Gardner, and his wife Lauren. In addition to the music, the event will feature an eco-village called the Shift Consciousness Pavilion, with exhibits where concert-goers can learn about renewable energy, sample ice cream and energy drinks, and get the latest info on other environmental causes.
Fans also can get a peek inside Guster’s environmentally friendly, biodiesel-powered tour bus, and make a video offering their opinions on climate change, as part of the Shift Shout-Out video contest. -Donna Isbell Walker
So like I said earlier I was a scene kid. Senior year and the beginning of my freshman year here in Anderson I was in the famous Steadfast. Well that went out the window so I could focus on my school work, like so. Anywho two of the guys that were in the band kept on and formed, A Beautiful Tragedy. They have taken off now and are on Itunes, they have hats, videos, all sorts of stuff. Here is a video they just posted and it has a soundtrack to it. So hats off to A Beautiful Tragedy.
Joe McCready a fellow college kid at ole Clemson is young and aspiring. With his acoustic guitar and his beautiful blond hair, he is soon to be one of the most popular upstate artist. Mccready in my books is comparitive with Dave Barnes and Matt Werks with a little less experience. Give him some time and a little more mentoring and he will be on the same level. His band “The Saboteurs,” is making the music flow together and really giving it a jam band feeling to it. They played in Downtown Anderson a few weeks ago and it was a hit. Joe McCready and The Saboteurs will be playing around the Upstate this summer, and around the south east. Keep you’re ears open and check them out.
OK Dawn, you are amazing!!! Dawn showed me a band today, Calibretto 13, that is sooo perfect for this blog. like literally. check out some of their lyrics. (This one called Why can’t I be on MTV? is my fave!!) I’m not a huge fan of their sound, but I think it could grow on me–like on days when I’m feeling quirky (yeah, yeah, so that’s everyday). So here. have a listen and decide for yourself. Let me know what you think!
The mid-90s were defined by music, and few other bands had the influence of Days of the New. The group from Kentucky came onto the scene as mere teenagers and soon shot to the top of the charts with songs like “Shelf in the Room,” “Downtown,” and the smash hit, “Touch, Peel, Stand.” The band last for a few years and then morphed into “Tantric” where they found even more success. But now DOTN is back and their original, hard hitting, acoustic sound is making its way to The Handlebar in Greenville.
The show is May 4 at 9:00pm with tickets at $15. This show will not let you down.
Yesterday (April 21) tickets went on sale at the Bi-lo Center in Greenville for Hank Williams, Jr. Greenville be a stop on June 2 for Hank Jr.’s Rowdy Frynds Tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is any true Southerner’s dream. This concert is duel headlined, which means that both Hank Jr. and Skynyrd will be playing long sets. There is no way that this concert will not be an absolute blast. Too make it better, the show is on a Saturday so if you do anything shameful you can wake up and repent on Sunday.
