What makes a coffeehouse…

As I sit here in my favorite coffee spot, I think to myself, ” What makes this experience nice?” Is it the coffee? Hmmm…possibly. Is it the building? Hmmm…not likely, even though the buliding is really old with high ceilings painted black (that’s kinda cool). Is it the music? There in lies my point, the music is an essential part. It adds to the atmosphere. What I mean is music aids in the deep reflection process. It’s true. Why is the feel of a coffee shop, even a Starbuck conglomerate franchise (I added all that for effect…), so welcoming and pleasant? The music really adds. Here’s a thought, picture it, you’re sitting there and you’ve just taken the first sip of the best latte, mocha, whatever your drink of choice is, you’ve ever had and it’s completely silent. I mean nothing, no noise, chatter nothing. Would you stay? Nope! You wouldn’t or you’d fall asleep, and that would completely defeat the purpose of drinking the amazing caffeinated beverage you just paid good money for. Unless you’re drinking decaf and have the intention of falling asleep. That reminds me, there is this one guy that sleeps everyday in the coffeehouse…I wonder if he drinks decaf?
My musical experience of choice today is the Counting Crows.
