The Sports Year Starts Again!

With classes and practices already behind us, the start of a new season is closely upon us.  This blogger is going to have to change his name due the the conference name change. What was the CVAC is now Conference Carolinas because of the change in schools. When Longwood left the CVAC in 1999 the conference no longer had any Virgina schools in it. So a name change is been long time coming. But I am looking forward to this year and will do my best to keep everyone updated on the sports from around the Conference Carolinas!

Joby Hawn Cup–Comes to Anderson

Anderson University took home the its second big piece of hardware this year when the CVAC announced that Anderson had won the Hawn Cup! Anderson is the first South Carolina school to win the Hawn Cup–thanks Peeler.

The CVAC website wrote a great article on this so just follow the link and enjoy the article.

The good news is the Beville Cup will have some company this year in the Abney Athletic Center.

I am not going to post a CVAC tournament bracket for tennis with my picks but below is a link to the actual bracket. I do think it will be a good tournament to watch. Anderson went through the regular season undefeated and should bring home the title, but Limestone’s only loss was to Anderson so it should be interesting. I think Barton could slip up and beat someone.

Men’s Tennis Bracket cvac-mens-tennis-bracket.xls –will open in excel.

Blogs on the Way

I will get the softball final standings and CVAC tournament bracket up as soon the season is over. I will get the baseball brackets up by tomorrow morning. Along with the CVAC men’s and women’s tennis final standings and brackets.

On the men’s side Anderson seems to have it locked up after beating Limestone at home earlier this week. But, on the women’s side the season will come down the the Erskine-Limestone match.

While I am on the topic of tennis, I would like to address an issue that came up a couple of weeks ago. The Erskine women’s team beat Anderson’s women 8-1 at Anderson this year. After the match the Erskine team took a picture in front of Anderson administration building making an inappropriate gesture. They then proceeded to post the picture on facebook with some more inappropriate comments from the tennis members. Anderson was told that the “players were dealt with.” I am a student at Anderson, as I have said before, and this outrages me. This players should be suspended. How can a whole team be “dealt with” if they are still undefeated? Anderson never received an apology. Furthermore, this was just shuffled under the rug. I am not sure if the conference office even was notified of this. These players should have been punished to a great extent instead of a slap on the wrist. That is point blank disrespect. Don’t worry ladies, we will take a picture in front of the Beville Cup while it rest in Abney smiling and waving.
