The Sports Year Starts Again!

With classes and practices already behind us, the start of a new season is closely upon us.  This blogger is going to have to change his name due the the conference name change. What was the CVAC is now Conference Carolinas because of the change in schools. When Longwood left the CVAC in 1999 the conference no longer had any Virgina schools in it. So a name change is been long time coming. But I am looking forward to this year and will do my best to keep everyone updated on the sports from around the Conference Carolinas!

Joby Hawn Cup–Comes to Anderson

Anderson University took home the its second big piece of hardware this year when the CVAC announced that Anderson had won the Hawn Cup! Anderson is the first South Carolina school to win the Hawn Cup–thanks Peeler.

The CVAC website wrote a great article on this so just follow the link and enjoy the article.

The good news is the Beville Cup will have some company this year in the Abney Athletic Center.

I am not going to fill out a bracket on this, but I think Andeson will surprise people. I am not picking them because I go to Anderson, but I think they have a great chance. I have heard Mt. Olive has the athletes to win it, but I sticking with AU.

Here is the bracket cvac-softball-bracket.xls this will open in excel.

First CVAC Softball Post

Here the the CVAC standing in softball so far. Remember softball only plays one double header for conference.

  1. Mt. Olive 2-0
  2. Anderson 7-1
  3. Coker 6-2
  4. Queens 4-2
  5. Limestone 2-2
  6. Pfeiffer 3-3
  7. St. Andrews 2-4
  8. Lees-McRae 1-5
  9. Belmont Abbey 1-9
  10. Barton 0-0
  11. Erskine 0-0

I just watched Anderson sweep Belmont pretty convincingly tonight. I have seen AU play all of their home games this year and they can swing the bats. Kayla Williams could be the best offensive player in the CVAC.

I will say that there are only four teams with winning overall records this year: Mt. Olive, Anderson, Coker and Pfeiffer. Anderson has themselves in the drivers seat so far though. Yes, they are in second, but Mt. Olive has only played two conference games. If Anderson can keep swinging the bats they have a great chance. However, if they falter at all Coker is looming. Should be a good season, so I am excited to see how it turns out.
