The Sports Year Starts Again!

With classes and practices already behind us, the start of a new season is closely upon us.  This blogger is going to have to change his name due the the conference name change. What was the CVAC is now Conference Carolinas because of the change in schools. When Longwood left the CVAC in 1999 the conference no longer had any Virgina schools in it. So a name change is been long time coming. But I am looking forward to this year and will do my best to keep everyone updated on the sports from around the Conference Carolinas!

Joby Hawn Cup–Comes to Anderson

Anderson University took home the its second big piece of hardware this year when the CVAC announced that Anderson had won the Hawn Cup! Anderson is the first South Carolina school to win the Hawn Cup–thanks Peeler.

The CVAC website wrote a great article on this so just follow the link and enjoy the article.

The good news is the Beville Cup will have some company this year in the Abney Athletic Center.

Quality Barton Basketball Article

This article is on the CVAC webiste about Barton. The article was written by Charlotte Ovserver writer David Scott. This is by far the best article that I have read about Barton’s national championship season. Scott does a great job of portraying the communities response and the schools response. Scott, I have to agree with; this will put Barton and the CVAC on the map.

Barton Wins National Championship

Barton trailed all game until the last 30 seconds. This finish is amazing and I have never seen anything like it. You have to see it to believe it. Enjoy and congrulations to Barton for bring the CVAC’s first national championship.

Barton In National Title Game

Congratulations are in order for the Barton men’s basketball team.  They advanced to the national championship game tonight as they defeated Cal State San Bernardino tonight 80-79. Barton is lead by their All-American Guard Anthony Atkinson who was won their last two games in the final seconds to send Barton to the Finals. Congrats to Barton!! Bring it home guys!!!

CVAC Tournament Winners for basketball

Pfeiffer takes Anderson in the CVAC women’s basketball final.  Well, my girls gave it a good run.  I am glad they showed up to play in tournament.  I watched some of the game on the internet webcast and it appeared that Anderson’s leading scorer got in foul trouble and was held to 16 points.  I figured Pfeiffer’s Truslow would be a factor, but she fell victim to foul trouble, as well.  Both of these teams should be in the regionals and make a strong showing for the CVAC.  Who knows we could see these two teams face off for the Regional Championship.

Barton won the men’s CVAC Title this year over Mount Olive.  I have really written on the men’s tournament or any of the teams because Barton was clearly the best team.  Barton and Mt. Olive will probably make the Regionals, but I haven’t looked at the other competition as closely as I have followed the women’s teams.

Congratulations to both teams and I know the CVAC will be represented well in the NCAA Regionals.
